The Breakthrough: First True Dominican Puro
A puro means every component of the cigar—wrapper, binder, and filler—comes from the same country. The Fuente Fuente OpusX was the first successful Dominican puro, debuting in 1995. Before OpusX, the industry believed Dominican soil couldn’t produce premium wrapper tobacco. Wrapper leaves require extremely precise conditions—thin texture, elasticity, and consistent color. Most Dominican cigars used wrappers from countries like Ecuador, Cameroon, or Connecticut. The Fuente family proved that assumption wrong by growing a Cuban-seed wrapper in the Dominican Republic.
